Pumpkins
Cucurbita spp. | Pkt. $3.00 | approx. 30 seeds unless specified otherwise
Lady Godiva, Cucurbita pepo
110 days. This pumpkin is grown for its plump, hulless seeds, definitely not its flesh which is stringy and bland tasting. Dark green seeds contain a large variety of minerals and other vital nutrients such as iron, protein and fiber. We dry them and use year round in salads, baked goods, snacks, casseroles and soups. A jar of spiced pumkin seeds makes a great gift. The large vines produce and average of 2 large yellowish striped pumpkins that are loaded with dark green seeds. Since the seeds are hulless they are consider naked, hence the name Lady Godiva, who rode naked through a medieval market on her horse. Packet or Bulk size available.
New England Pie, Cucurbita pepo
105 days. These little heirloom pumpkins have dense, dry, stringless flesh and are perfect for pies, stuffing, soup or gnocchi. They are a deep orange color and range in size from 2-3 kg. Cure them after harvest and they will store well into the winter months. Bulk @ $5.25 for 15g.
Marina di Chioggia, Cucurbita maxima
105 days. Delicious, sweet, dry orange flesh and beautiful grey-green warty skin. These Italian heirloom pumpkins are grown by the sea and used to make soup, gnocchi, lasagna and stuffed ravioli. They are so ornamental you may not want to eat them— but do, they are one of the best tasting winter squashes we have grown. The fruit are somewhat inconsistent in shape but most of them are turban shaped and all of them are beautiful. Average 2 fruit per plant. Great storage squash.
Winter Luxury Pie, Cucurbita pepo
A beautiful little pie pumpkin with white netting over its orange skin and a long twisting handle. Quite simply the finest pie stock in the land according to Amy Goldman in her book The Compleat Squash. The flesh is smooth, silky and flavourful.back to top
