Eggplant
Solanum melongena | Pkt. $3.00 | approx. 50 seeds
Black Beauty
70 days. Glossy purple-black, egg-shaped fruits are borne abundantly on spineless plants. This is the standard open-pollinated eggplant chosen by gardeners for generations. We eat it baked, fried, pureed and stewed. It is like a sponge for other flavours. Italian origin.
Listada de Gandia
85 days. This little eggplant is a beauty. Tasty oval fruits are bright purple with creamy white stripes and reach 15-20 cm. The skin is quite tender so we don't bother peeling them. The stocky plants are 45-50 tall and are productive even in our zone 5 fields. Said to be an Italian heirloom but we've come across claims of Spanish origin. We are happy to grow it either way.
Little Finger
62 days. This unique, small-fruited Oriental eggplant is early maturing and produces an abundance of long, 12-20 cm., slender, deep purple fruit. Robust, spineless, 35-50 cm. plants hold the fruit up off the ground. The purple beauties are easy to pick and are excellent sauteed, pickled, and fresh.
Pingtung
65 days. Long, slender Asian-type eggplant has shiny lavender skin that is so tender it doesn't require peeling. The creamy flesh has good flavour and is mild, rarely bitter. Plants are heavy producers of 30 cm. long and 3-4 cm. diameter fruits. Our 2010 crop outproduced any other eggplant we have grown. Named for its city of origin, Pingtung, in Taiwan.Back to Top
